The transgender skateboarder who generated outrage by winning a recent competition by defeating a 13-year-old girl has defended skateboarding against kids.

Ricci Tres has been taking hormones for two years, but he hasn't had reassignment surgery.

Even as a young child, Tres said she was always fascinated in skateboarding, but she didn't think about it as a career until it was added as an Olympic sport in 2020, right as she was beginning her transition.

She continued, saying she thought her situation was distinct from that of transgender University of Pennsylvania swimmer Lia Thomas, who destroyed female competition in the water after starting hormone therapy.

According to the DailyMail, the 29-year-old divorced Navy father of three who identifies as a woman was disqualified from the women's Olympic Qualifiers last year as their testosterone levels were too high.

On Saturday, June 25, Tres won a women's skateboarding competition in New York by defeating 13-year-old Shiloh Catori. She also won the women's division of The Boardr Open and took home a $500 cash award.

Out of six participants, Tres won. Four of the competitors were under the age of 17, with Juri Iikura, 10, being the youngest.

Shiloh, who triumphed in the competition last year, stated that she is "not at all angry" with the outcome and that Ricci ought to be permitted to participate.

However, she doesn't see a problem with it, telling DailyMail.com that age and gender "don't count" and that the activity is not as physically taxing as others like swimming or jogging.
