Fans are curious if Cherie Gil died due to cancer as the actress passed away eight years after her brother's death.

Cherie Gil was a Filipino actress dubbed the "La Primera Contravida" for her incredible acting career and contributions to the entertainment industry.

She made her name in the Filipino acting industry as a  "quintessential Kontravida" and was active in the showbiz sector for almost five decades. Throughout her time in the limelight, she played in 130 different acting projects since her debut in 1973.

Cherie won several accolades at the top of the spotlight, winning the FAMAS Award and the Hall of Fame recognition at the Metro Manila Film Festival in 2015. Besides them, she also received several Best Actress honors in different events and categories.

Many fans regard her as one of the brightest stars in the Filipino acting industry, and the demise of such an incredible personality has saddened several people. She died around eight years after the death of her older brother, Mark, who lost his life in 2014. He was diagnosed with terminal-stage liver cancer in 2012 and was battling against the disease for over two years before succumbing to death in 2014. However, the man had decided to keep his diagnosis a secret from the outer public and media.

His health situation became familiar to the outsiders only at the time of his death when his family members announced his demise. Mark passed away peacefully during his sleep, reports the Independent.

The Philippine Star confirmed that Cherie Gil indeed died due to cancer.

Speaking about the actress's death cause, the news portal confirmed it to be cancer, based on the information provided by a separate source and a friend of the outlet, as they claim. It is one of the biggest media portals in the country, and thus, the information seems pretty reliable. 

Cherie also fashioned her bald look for the 30th anniversary of Mega Magazine, as shared by Rappler on Twitter. Since she was bald, the fact that the actress was struggling against cancer seems much more objective.

Nonetheless, her talent manager didn't mention any specific cause of death while circulating the notice of her demise. So, there is a hint of doubt in the official confirmation of the situation.

Speaking of Cherie's Gil family, she was married to Rony Rogoff, a violinist, and the couple had two children.

The actress was survived by her husband and children. Cherie and Rony remained married for a few decades and had two kids, Bianca and Raphael. Besides them, the lady also had a child, Jeremiah David, from her previous relationship.

Similarly, she was born to her parents, Eddie Mesa and Rosemarie Gil. Both are former Filipino singer-actors. The lady grew up among her siblings, Mark Gil and Michael de Mesa, who also made their names in the acting industry.
