Malcolm Gladwell is a British-born Canadian journalist who has been a staff writer for the American magazine The New Yorker since 1996. 

He rose to prominence as an author after his debut book, The Tipping Point, was named one of the most outstanding books of the decade by Amazon.com users in 2000.

Malcolm Timothy Gladwell was born in Kent to a British father, Graham, a professor of civil engineering, and a Jamaican mother, Joyce, a psychologist.

But he grew up mainly in Canada and also earned his degree there. In 1969, Malcolm's mother published her memoir, Brown Face, Big Master.

He was a curious child, although not as interested as other children. Nobody predicted that he would be a success. Surprisingly, Gladwell struggled academically in high school and college.

Malcolm declared his desire to be an academic, but he soon learned that hedgehogs are hedgehogs, and he was a fox. As a result, he tried his hand at writing and began covering stories for several periodicals. 

He began his career at The American Spectator before moving on to The Washington Post and The New Yorker. In 1996, he shot to fame with two New Yorker articles, "Tipping Point" and "The Coolnut."

Following his breakthrough, he worked for the Grantland site, launched by former ESPN columnist Bill Simmons.
